A good home office is a small system. The desk, chair, screen, light, power, storage, and room all affect one another. This checklist keeps the order sensible.

1. Measure the working footprint

  • Maximum desk width and depth
  • At least 75–80 cm of movement space behind the chair where possible
  • Door, drawer, radiator, and window clearance
  • Distance to power and network access

2. Choose the work surface

  • 120 × 60 cm for compact laptop or single-screen work
  • 150 × 75 cm as a flexible general-purpose size
  • 180 × 80 cm for dual screens or creative equipment
  • A matte, durable finish with a comfortable front edge

3. Fit the body

  • Chair height that allows supported feet
  • Desk height close to relaxed elbow level
  • Screen at about arm’s length, top near eye level
  • External keyboard and mouse for long laptop sessions

4. Layer the light

Put daylight beside the screen rather than directly behind it. Add soft room light to control contrast and an adjustable task lamp for paper or detailed work.

5. Plan power before accessories

Mount a power strip and cable tray under the desktop. Route one lead to the wall and test the full range of a sit–stand frame before securing anything.

6. Add only useful storage

Keep everyday items within reach. Put occasional supplies in a drawer or mobile pedestal and archive material away from the desk. Empty surface is functional space.
